Charging vs fuelling in the Philippines, explained.
Is it really cheaper to charge an EV than to buy fuel? +
Yes — and it isn't close. Even against the cheapest gasoline or diesel in town, home charging wins on cost per kilometre. A typical EV uses about 12–16 kWh per 100 km, so a 50 km day costs roughly ₱75–110 to charge, versus ₱250–350 for the same distance on fuel. The calculator above uses today's real rates so you can see your own number.
How much does a full charge cost at home? +
Multiply the battery size by your electricity rate. A 60 kWh battery at ₱14.78/kWh is about ₱887 for a full charge — and that typically gives 400–500 km of range, so you're paying under ₱2 per kilometre.
Which electricity rate should I use? +
Your own distribution utility's residential rate per kWh, from your latest bill. The provider picker includes Meralco (Metro Manila), VECO (Cebu) and Davao Light (Davao); pick "Custom" to type your exact rate. Rates change monthly, so the number on your bill is always the most accurate.
Do these numbers include aircon, traffic and charging losses? +
The base figures use manufacturer efficiency. In the real world — aircon on, Manila traffic, charging losses — energy use is usually 10–20% higher, so treat the savings shown as a best case. The gap over fuel is large enough that EVs still come out well ahead.
Does this compare the price of the cars? +
No. Plug and Save compares running (energy) cost only — not the sticker price, maintenance, insurance or depreciation. EVs usually cost more up front; this tool shows how quickly the running-cost gap chips away at that difference.
Where do the prices come from and how often do they update? +
Fuel prices refresh automatically each week; electricity rates follow each utility's monthly announcement. If the live feed is ever unavailable, the tool falls back to recent known values so the numbers always make sense. You can override any field by hand.
