How far can Philippine EVs really go on one charge?

The range on the brochure and the range you actually get are two different numbers. Here's how to read the gap — and why it matters less than you'd think.

Range anxiety is the number-one worry for Philippine EV shoppers, and it's worth addressing head-on. The short version: most EVs sold here go far enough for daily life several times over — but the headline range figure is optimistic, so learn to translate it.

Why the brochure number is high

Manufacturers quote range from standardised lab tests — often NEDC or CLTC, both of which are gentle and flattering. Real driving is harsher: aircon running full-time in the tropics, stop-go traffic, higher speeds on expressways, and the gradual loss as a battery ages. As a rule of thumb, expect 70–85% of the rated figure in real Philippine conditions.

What that looks like in practice

Rated rangeRealistic rangeGood for
~300 km~210–255 kmcity commuting, errands
~450 km~315–380 kmdaily driving + occasional trips
~550 km~385–470 kmregular long-distance

Put that against a typical commute. If you drive 50 km a day, even a modest 300 km-rated EV covers roughly four days between charges in the real world — and you'd top it up overnight at home long before it ran low.

The heat factor

Philippine heat cuts both ways. Extreme cold is what really destroys range elsewhere in the world, and we don't have that — so we avoid winter's big penalty. But constant aircon use is a steady drain, and sustained high temperatures are hard on the battery over years (more on that in our battery guide). Net effect: aircon is the main day-to-day range cost here, and it's a price most drivers happily pay.

How to get more range

The honest takeaway

For city and suburban life, range is a solved problem — you'll charge at home and rarely think about it. Range only becomes a real planning exercise for frequent long provincial drives, where you'll want to map charging stops. Match the car's realistic range to your longest regular trip, not your daily one, and you'll never feel stranded.
